Renewable Diesel Fuel brought to you by Love's Travel Stops

ABOUT

HEARTWELL RENEWABLES

Heartwell Renewables, a Love’s Travel Stop affiliate company, is constructing a renewable diesel (RD) production facility in Hastings, NE to produce low-carbon intensity RD and distribute to the retail pump. Once operational, the facility will produce up to 80 MM gallons of RD annually. Commissioning and production are anticipated for the second half of 2026.

What is

Renewable diesel?

Renewable diesel is a one-for-one replacement for traditional diesel fuel. It is made from feedstocks such as animal fats, used cooking oils and vegetable oils. Renewable diesel is chemically identical to petroleum diesel but offers significant improvements in environmental performance due to its reduced carbon intensity and emissions.

BENEFITS OF RENEWABLE DIESEL

Reduction in Greenhouse Gas
REDUCTION IN GREENHOUSE GAS
Renewable diesel delivers at least a 50% reduction of greenhouse gases compared to traditional petroleum-based diesel.
Reduction in Toxic Emissions
REDUCTION IN TOXIC EMISSIONS
Renewable diesel reduces toxic emissions, pollutants and particulate matter.
Standard Storage Requirements
STANDARD STORAGE REQUIREMENTS
Like traditional diesel fuel, renewable diesel can be stored for extended periods.
Superior Cold Temperature Performance
SUPERIOR COLD TEMPERATURE PERFORMANCE
Because renewable diesel does not have oxygen in its chemical structure, it delivers superior performance in cold weather — providing faster startups, improved throttle response and decreased noise.
One-for-One Replacement
ONE-FOR-ONE REPLACEMENT WITH TRADITIONAL DIESEL
Renewable diesel is compatible with diesel engines and can be directly used with no blending required.
Enhanced Vehicle Performance
ENHANCED VEHICLE PERFORMANCE
Renewable diesel has a faster combustion speed, delivering more power and reducing soot and maintenance requirements.

HIGH-LEVEL PROCESS

  1. Pre-Treatment Unit (PTU) purifies feedstock
  2. The PTU and Hydrogen plant (H2) feed into the Renewable Diesel Unit (RDU)
  3. Pre-treated feedstock and hydrogen react within the RDU at high temperatures and pressures, in the presence of catalyst, to produce Renewable Diesel (RD)
