Buescher to show off sweet throwback car at Darlington

Do you remember September 1981? "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was No. 1 at the box office, and "Jessie's Girl" was finishing its run in the Top 10 of the pop music charts.

That was also the year Love's opened its first interstate travel stop, along Interstate 40 in Amarillo.

In honor of that milestone, Chris Buescher will be driving a special "throwback" edition of the #34 Love's Ford Fusion at Darlington Raceway for Sunday's Bojangles' Southern 500.

Buescher is still very much alive for the Sprint Cup Chase, and he's excited for his first Sprint Cup run at Darlington.

"It's my favorite race track we go to. I love racing there. I haven't been there in a Cup car, and I am curious as to how it's going to differ from the XFINITY side. But I think it's going to be a great race and probably the most anticipated track for me since coming to the Cup side," he said.

And the Front Row Motorsports driver will be rocking the sweetest looking car on the track.

"We've got a cool throwback paint scheme from Love's Travel Stops. It's the same colors and branding that they used on the fuel canopies of the first travel stop they opened in 1981 in Amarillo, Texas. Now they've got almost 400 locations across the country. We'll try to keep it clean. It's already got stripes on it, so we don't need to add a Darlington stripe," Buescher said.

The race is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET Sunday with coverage on NBC.
